TITLE: THE OLD SEA DOG (2020):
ARTIST: BRIAN A. BERNHARD
Ink and Watercolors on Archival Paper
Mounted in a hand-cut 16” x 20” white matte.
I grew up in Southern Virginia, sailing boats with my grandfather around the Chesapeake Bay, and often we would cross the bridge/tunnel into the ocean where, the waters would get rough, but exciting and sometimes we would get caught in a storm where we would need to get the good ol’ slickers on! This piece is basically inspired by crossing images in my mind of my grandfather in his trusty foul weather gear and the Mortons Fisherman (because I grew up in the 80’s and sometimes ya just can’t get these marketing images out of your brain, and for some strange reason, even though we had a boat and the facilities to fish pretty regularly, I do remember having these processed fish sticks for dinner quite often, when I was a kid).”
